The belief in God as the Creator of all things and the Giver of life has always been central to the Christian Faith. The very first word of the Bible are "In the beginning God created..." - and as the ancient Nicaean Creed says: 'We believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible... by whom all things were made… the Lord and Giver of life…' This idea of a Creator God has come deeply under attack in our modern world. Secular scientist loudly proclaim that the universe is the result of nothing more than physics, and life is an accident of time, chance, and chemistry. Anyone who rejects these teaches is deemed 'anti-science.' But this is not so different from the ancient past when people taught ideas of an eternal universe, or spontaneous generation. Just as our Christian brothers and sister back then stood for the truth of a Creator God, it is critical that Christians today continue that stand for this essential belief. Tomorrow we'll examine what the Bible says about this in detail, look at some of the attacks against it, and then consider the ramifications of this belief in a Creator God. Finally we'll consider how this Core Christian stand shapes our daily lives as we follow Jesus.
