This Sunday we reach chapter 5 in our study of the Book of Daniel... and it's another exciting one! As chapter 5 begins, the once mighty Babylonian empire is failing: Nebuchadnezzar's grandson is ruling in the city of Babylon - the Persian army is closing in - and the arrogant ruler Belshazzar decides to take the holy vessels that they looted from the Temple in Jerusalem and use them in a pagan feast! It is at this moment that a hand appears and writes a message on the wall... and Daniel (now an old man) is summoned to interpret the mysterious writing.
As we study this incredible bit of history, we'll find that God has some powerful lessons for us. Lessons that can give us some invaluable direction for living our lives today, as we seek to not just survive, but THRIVE as we live here in 'Babylon' ourselves.
